AMAZING Exhibition

There is a new exhibition at the Sheldon Art Gallery that I've been looking forward to checking out, and it's finally here:

Visions of Sound: Masterpieces from the Hartenberger World Music Collection
February 20 - May 9, 2009

The photo is a Burma Saùng-gauk (Arched Harp), just one of many instruments in this über-cool collection. The exhibit showcases samples from Dr. Aurelia Hartenberger's 2,000-piece collection she's acquired from six continents (Asia, Africa, North America, South America, Europe, and Australia).

Looks to be amazing. I grew up in a musical family, and play/played my share of instruments (piano, flute, guitar, bass), so I appreciate the craftmanship, culture and the universal connection that music evokes. How incredible would it be to sit in a room with these thousands of instruments and attempt to learn how to play each one?

I will be checking it out this weekend - thinking it will be a great way to spend a cold & potentially snowy Saturday morning.
